Monday as investors were optimistic about quarterly earnings at
the start of the reporting season and about economic growth.
Deal speculation also lent support, with shares of FedEx
Corp. up 2 percent before the opening bell on a
published report the package delivery company could become a
takeover target pursued by private equity buyers.
