Carlyle agrees to invest $657 mln in Taiwan bank

(Reuters) - The deal comes as consolidation speeds up in the island's
banking sector, Asia's fourth-biggest, with foreign banks and
private equity funds looking for value in the industry that has
largely emerged from a consumer credit crunch that dragged down
banking stocks to almost the lowest valuations in the region.
